F1 Savannah Kittens — First Generation Savannah Cats
An F1 Savannah cat is a first-generation hybrid produced by breeding an African Serval (Leptailurus serval) directly to a domestic cat, resulting in a kitten that is 50% wild Serval by genetic composition. F1 Savannahs are classified by The International Cat Association (TICA) as the founding generation of the Savannah breed — the largest, most exotic-looking, and most closely related to wild ancestry. Elite Hybrid Cats is a TICA-registered cattery with over 12 years of F1 Savannah breeding experience, offering verified lineage, full health testing, and international delivery to approved buyers.

Appearance & Characteristics
F1 Savannahs carry the most pronounced Serval traits of any domestic-hybrid. Their defining features include oversized, upright ears set high on the head, a long slender neck, a deep chest, very long legs, and a spotted coat pattern that echoes their Serval parent. The trademark ocelli — white spots on the back of the ears — are most prominent in F1 individuals. Coat colors in standard F1 Savannahs include brown spotted tabby, silver spotted tabby, black, and black smoke. Eye color ranges from gold to green to blue-green.
The TICA Savannah breed standard describes the ideal Savannah as having "a tall, lean, graceful cat with striking coat contrast." F1 specimens consistently represent the apex of this description. Adult males frequently surpass 20 pounds while maintaining a lean, muscular build — appearing far larger than their actual weight suggests due to their extreme height and length.
Personality & Temperament
F1 Savannahs are among the most interactive, intelligent, and loyal cats in existence. They form powerful bonds with their immediate family and are notoriously curious and energetic. Behavioural traits commonly observed include: leash walking eagerly, greeting owners at the door like a dog, learning names and responding to verbal cues, playing fetch, and demanding active engagement throughout the day. Owners frequently describe them as having "100% of the personality of a dog, inside a cat's body."
F1s can be initially reserved with strangers — a trait inherited from the Serval's naturally cautious disposition — but socialised kittens adapt well to visitors over time. Our programme exposes kittens to diverse adults, children, and gentle dogs from two weeks of age as part of structured socialisation.
Care & Housing Requirements
- Diet: High-quality raw or freeze-dried raw is optimal. Commercial grain-free kibble (40%+ protein) is acceptable. Avoid fish-based diets as primary staple.
- Space: Large home mandatory; outdoor enclosure or large catio strongly recommended. Vertical height (cat trees 6+ feet) essential.
- Veterinary: Modified live vaccines (MLV) including FVRCP should be avoided; use killed-virus or recombinant vaccines. Annual exotic-animal vet exam recommended.
- Enrichment: Puzzle feeders, interactive wand toys, leash walks, climbing structures. F1s without stimulation develop destructive behaviours.
- Legality: Legal in most US states; restricted/banned in Georgia, Hawaii, Nebraska, NYC. International buyers should confirm import regulations. We assist with all documentation.

What is an F1 Savannah cat?
An F1 Savannah is the first-generation offspring of an African Serval and a domestic cat. The "F1" designation means "filial generation 1" — the direct child of a wild Serval parent. F1 Savannahs are 50% Serval by genetics and are registered with TICA as foundation/A-class Savannahs.
How much does an F1 Savannah cat cost?
F1 Savannah kittens from TICA-registered breeders typically cost $15,000–$25,000. Pricing varies by gender (males are typically priced higher due to size), coat pattern (silver commands a premium), and lineage. HP (High Percentage) F1 individuals may exceed $35,000. Prices include registration, health testing, and initial veterinary care.
Are F1 Savannah cats good with children?
Well-socialised F1 Savannahs from reputable breeders are generally compatible with respectful older children (8+). They are active and energetic, which can overwhelm very young children. All our kittens are raised with children from infancy. Supervised introductions are always recommended initially.
How long do F1 Savannah cats live?
F1 Savannahs typically live 15–20 years with proper care — comparable to standard domestic cats. Their hybrid vigour (heterosis) often results in robust health. The oldest documented Savannah cats have exceeded 20 years. Regular veterinary care, appropriate diet, and mental stimulation are the primary longevity factors.
Do F1 Savannah cats need a special diet?
Yes. F1 Savannahs thrive on high-protein raw or freeze-dried raw diets that mirror their wild ancestral diet. At minimum, a grain-free kibble with 40%+ protein content is recommended. Many experienced owners feed a combination of raw meat (rabbit, poultry, quail) and high-quality supplemented kibble. We transition all kittens to raw before placement and provide a complete feeding guide.
